Pz Kpfw V Panther Ausf A
The Panther was introduced into service in 1943 in response to the mighty Russian T34 exhibiting the same sloped armour and a lethal high velocity 75mm gun. Seeing service at Kursk (Operation Citadel) in 1943 its initial action was less than glorious.
Although later variants were introduced, the Ausf A continues to serve in Panzer Divisions right through to the end of the war. Along with the Panzer IV, the Panther was the main battle tank of the German Panzer Division.
