Leyland Hippo Mk II 10ton General Service Truck

The Leyland Hippo was designed to meet the needs of the British Army planning for D-Day where a 10ton capacity truck had distinct advantages over smaller vehicles. Designed in 1943, it entered production in late 1944 with 1,000 being built before the end of WWII. It was powered by a 100hp Leyland six cylinder diesel engine capabel of 30mph The truck had a steel cab and a steel framed, timbered well body. It was also fitted with steel hoops and a canvas cover to hide the load.
