The 22nd Armoured Brigade was formed in 1939 with three Yeomanry (TA) mechanised cavalry regiments. The 22nd fought in the Western Desert campaign in North Africa as well as in Italy before being withdrawn to fight in the battle of Normandy. It was part of 7th Armoured Division from 1942 onwards.
