Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress

The B-17 was a four engined heavy bomber designed by Boeing for the US Army Air Corps. It was given the nickname the Flying Fortress on account of the amount of guns provided for defence. The B-17 was employed on the strategic daylight bombing campagin waged on Germany during WWII. The US Eighth Air Force was based in England and the US Fifteenth Air Force was was in Italy both flew B-17s. The B-17G was the last variant with the number of guns increased from 7 to 13. 8,680 were built.
