17 Pounder Anti Tank Gun

The 17 Pounder was a 76.2mm, or 3" gun developed by the British during WWII. It was without doubt the best Allied anti tank gun of WWII. The 17 Pounder fired an APDS (Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot) shell which was capable of dealing with any German tank. It was introduced into in 1943 during the Italian campaign as a replacement for the smaller 6 Pounder. One disadvantage was a large muzzle flash when firing due to the large volume of propellant in its cartridge.
