The FV-651 Salamander is based on the same chassis as the FV-601 Saladin Armoured Car and FV-603 Saracen Armoured Personnel Carrier. It subsequently led to the development of the FV-620 Stalwart. The Salamander carried a crew of 6 and could produce 7,500 gallons of foam per minute. Overall, 125 Salamanders were built and used by The Royal Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force until the late 1970s.
