Sd Kfz 182 King Tiger (Henschel)

The Tiger II (Sd Kfz 182) was ordered in January 1943 to provide a tank capable of housing the 8.8cm L/71 gun. The first 50 King Tiger produced had the original Porsche designed turret. This was later replaced by a Henschel designed turret. The first vehicles entered service in June 1944 and were allocated to the Schwere Panzer detachments of the SS. While they could take on and eliminate enemy tanks with ease they were never available in sufficient numbers to halt the Allied advance.
