The Ting Yuen was an ironclad battleship and the flagship of the Chinese Beiyang fleet. Ting Yuen was 310 ft by 60ft with a 12" armoured belt capable of resisting any naval artillery at the time. She was powered by a coal fired steam engine producing a maximum speed of 14.5 knots and a range of 4,500 nautical miles. Ting Yuen was armed with four 12" (305mm) Krupp guns - 2 in two barbettes. The Ting Yuen had a crew of 363.
