BTR-70 (Early Production)

The BTR-70 is an 8x8 Armoured Personnel Carrier designed in the Soviet Union which entered service in 1972 and replaced the BTR-60. The BTR-70 closely resembled the BTR-60PB with both having a turret mounted 14.5mm KPVT machine gun or 12.7mm DShK machine gun and a secondary 7.62mm PKT machine gun. The BTR-70 featured heavier armour plating and more robust tyres. The side doors were relocated between the 2nd and third wheels increasing the risk of disembarking troops being run over.
