Steel Hedgehogs (10)

Ten metal cast steel hedgehogs - sometimes known as Czech Hedgehogs - typical of the beach defences seen along the Atlantic Wall during WWII. Welded or bolted together from three steel bars, the hedgehogs were designed to obstruct vehicles and landing craft. Their design meant they would could be placed as the first line of defence on the beach and when covered by the tide, the metal bars would be hidden underwater, shallow enough to obstruct landing craft coming into beach.
