P-51D Mustang

Designed by North American Aviation, the P-51D was a long range single seat fighter and fighter bomber which served in both WWII and Korea. Typically they were armed with six 0.50cal M2 Browning machine guns, P-51D were used by the US 8th Air Force to escort B-17 Flying Fortresses and B-24 Liberators on bombing raids over Germany. At the same time the RAF 2nd Tactical Airforce employed them as fighter bombers helping to ensure Allied air superiority in 1944.
