Ford Staff Car

The British Army employed the 1939 Ford Standard Station Wagon in a staff car capacity for transporting commanders and other communication crews. The 1939 Ford Standard had a horizontal split tail gate and roof hatches which provided ventilation and improved observation. This two wheel drive vehicle was also fitted with sand tyres for use in the deserts of North Africa. The vehicle was known as the 'Woody' as a result of the wooden panels along its sides.
