The M1A1 Abrams is the standard battle tank of the US Forces and first entered service in 1978 as the M1 with the M1A1 being introduced in 1985. The M1 Panther II utilises the Abrams chassis with the turret removed and mine clearing equipment added. This 43 ton armoured vehicle can clear 5,000 square metres of mines in one hour.
