17cm Kanone 18 - German Heavy Artillery

The 17cm Kanone 18 was, along with the 21cm Morser 18, the mainstay of the Wermacht heavy artillery with the same Krupp designed carriage being used for both weapons. The 17cm Kanone 18 was introduced in 1941 to replace the 15cm weapons that had been in use. The gun had a double recoil where the barrel recoiled in it's cradle and the upper carriage also recoiled across the carriage body. This reduced the recoil stress very effecively giving a very steady gun platform.
