KV-1S

Named after a marshall of the Soviet Union - Klementy Voroshilov - th KV heavy tank was the third in a trio of designs in 1938 for a replacement for the T-35. At the time of the German invasion of the Soviet Union, 500 KV were in service. The early KVs were heavy and the KV-1S was designed in late 1942 with thinner armour and a smaller, lower turret to improve it's speed. In addition, it also had a commanders cupola with all round vision blocks - a first for a Soviet tank.
