IS-1

The Iosef Stalin (or IS tank, named after Joesph Stalin) was a Russian Heavy Tank which entered service in 1944 and participated in final thrust into Germany and the Battle for Berlin. They were also knows has JS tanks. Developed to improve on the KV-1 which was considered slow and too lightly armed, the IS-1 was nearly canceled until the lessons learned from Kursk where the Germans deployed Panthers and Tigers in number. The gun choice was between settled on the 122mm A-19.
